Socials vs Timeleft

Last updated 1 November 2026

Two services that book a table for four to six people who have not met: Timeleft, the best-known in the world, and Socials by Detor, made in Amsterdam and Utrecht. We are Socials, so this is written by one side. The facts about Timeleft come from timeleft.com on the date at the top of this page, and where its site did not say, the table says so.

Where Timeleft is the better pick

Reach and routine. If you travel, or you want a dinner in almost any large city, nothing matches Timeleft's more than 200 cities.

The fixed Wednesday and Friday dinners suit people who like one standing appointment in the week. More than four million people have joined, so a table is rarely short of people.

Where Socials is the better pick

No membership. You pay for the seat you book, and nothing when you do not go.

More than dinner. There are activity meetups (bouldering, a run, board games, pottery), events open to everyone, and free hobby clubs that keep you meeting the same kind of people.

Privacy until you meet. Nobody sees a name until the table's chat opens, an hour before, and there are no profiles. The table is the introduction.

Made here. Socials is run by Detor B.V. in Utrecht. The venues are chosen by people who live in the city, and the address comes the day before.

We choose the group, book the table and tell you where the day before. No profiles. Everyone pays their own bill.

Questions people ask

Is Socials a Timeleft alternative?

Yes. Both seat a small group of strangers at a table booked for them. Socials has no membership, adds activity meetups, events and free hobby clubs, and shows nobody a name until the table's chat opens, an hour before. Timeleft runs in far more cities.

Does Socials need a subscription like Timeleft?

No. On Socials a seat has a price per session, shown before you pay, and there is no membership. Timeleft needs an active membership to confirm a booking.

Can I use both?

Many people in Amsterdam do. They're different evenings with different people, and the right one is whichever has dates that fit your week.

Pick one fast thing and one weekly thing.
